I picked up the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick during the first day of the VIB Rouge sale. Why did I wait so long? Oh wait, it’s because this foundation cost $46 for .25 ounces, which is [insanely] expensive. When I bought it I was secretly hoping I wouldn’t fall in love.
I bought the shade Warm Ivory, which is perfect for me. I compared Warm Ivory with Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation in Warm Natural and Make Up For Ever 118/Y325 Flesh (while I was at Sephora), and it had the most yellow/warm undertone of the three.
The foundation is medium to full coverage, and is definitely buildable. I applied about 3 lines on either side of my face, one line down my nose, and about two lines on my forehead and blended in with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. By the way, if you don’t have one of those brushes you should get one immediately. It is my favorite brush to apply foundation. It gives the most flawless airbrushed finish! I also love to use it with my Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation (you can read my review of that foundation here).
I applied the Hourglass Stick Foundation without a primer the first day I wore it to really test its wear time. I set it with my favorite Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in my t-zone, and then used the Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder #2 to set the rest of my face.
They first day I wore it, I applied it about 3:30pm. It wore well until about 10:30. Around 10:30pm, I noticed it had sunken into my pores a little and it had started to break up around my nose.
The second day I wore it, I applied at 1:00. I wore it until about 9:00 that night and it lasted really well. This day I also applied a primer underneath, so I think that helped it last a little longer (especially on my nose).
Highlight : Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Pearl
This foundation is so beautiful on my skin. It lasted about 8-9 hours on me (with a primer), and is so quick and easy to apply. It also photographs very well, but sadly (or maybe not so sadly since this stuff is outrageously expensive) this foundation did not work for me. After two days, my face broke out all over. I do have semi-sensitive skin, so I would still recommend this foundation to those of you who don’t have sensitive skin.
I haven’t been able to pin point what ingredients I’m sensitive to, so I’m not sure what is in this foundation that caused my breakouts. I’ll definitely be returning this to Sephora because I can’t use it. 🙁
