This post has been a long time coming. I’ve alluded to it several times in previous posts (like here in my April Favorites post). I’ve read a lot about the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, but for the longest time I couldn’t justify the $52 price tag (although they do offer a travel sized option for $18). When my mom offered to take me birthday shopping during the Sephora VIB sale in April, I knew this would be #1 on my list.
The Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer comes in a frosted white glass bottle and a pump dispenser. I love the look of the frosted glass (so luxurious and fancy).
The pump dispenser is great too. I find the amount dispensed is actually slightly more than you really need (and I have a large face). A half a pump will do for me. Full pump shown below.
This primer is silicone free. Silicone doesn’t irritate my skin, but it can be irritating to some skin types. It’s also oil free, and contains SPF 15. I always use an additional sunscreen, but the SPF 15 is a plus.
(Speaking of sunscreen, I ordered my Sephora Sun Safety Kit today and I cannot wait to get it! It includes 16 different sun products, and retails for only $32 – why would you not buy this is the question? Sephora puts these Sun Safety kits together every year, and they always sell out so get it while you can!)
What it claims to do – “This clean, satin-finish formula helps keep makeup looking fresh and prevents fading. Veil Mineral Primer also absorbs excess oils and minimizes the appearance of pores by evenly distributing light to help hide and soften skin imperfections and fine lines.”
This primer is SO light weight that I almost questioned its ability to smooth my skin, but it does just that! It’s light, creamy texture glides over your skin to smooth out uneven texture and make your skin feel silky smooth. It is amazing at keeping my oily skin under control, and making my makeup last hours (hint, hint this is going to be my secret to flawless skin during hot, humid summer months). My previous primer (Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure) never kept my oil at bay all day long like the Hourglass Veil Mineral does. It’s magic!
Recently, I’ve had a lot of questions about good foundations for oily skin -I know this isn’t a foundation, but you need this in your life if you have oily skin! The price tag is intimidating, but just purchase the $18 travel size version first and you’ll be hooked! Splurge on a good primer, and then you can use a drugstore foundation over it (i.e. L’oreal Infallible Pro Matte 24H Foundation – review coming soon). I’ve read that the NYX Angel Veil Skin Protecting Primer is the next best thing and also a dupe for the Hourglass primer, but I’ve yet to try it for myself (I will try it out soon and let y’all know).
Okay, so go ahead and add the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to your cart! You can thank me later….
Happy Memorial Day everyone!
