Save or Splurge – Beauty Blender

March 21, 2015

Beauty Blender Save or SplurgeI was one of those people who waited forever to buy the infamous Beauty Blender. Retailing at $19.95, the Beauty Blender is not cheap considering you could get a whole pack of makeup sponges for much less than that. I caved about six months ago, and added the Beauty Blender to my cart.

Why did I wait so long? My Beauty Blender has become an integral part of my everyday routine. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t find myself reaching for it. This is definitely not a normal makeup sponge. Beauty Blender describes it as –

“an open cell structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be “full” so that the makeup product sits on top of the sponge rather than being absorbed, allowing you to use less product every time. When wet, beautyblender® doubles in size and becomes even softer, returning to its original size when it air dries.”

It really does help you to use less product while giving you a super smooth finish. I use it to apply primer, foundation, and smooth out my concealer. I use it so much that I really want to purchase another one, so that I’m not constantly washing my original.

For blog research purposes, I also bought the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to test against the Beauty Blender. There are many different dupes to the Beauty Blender, but I chose this one because I know the Real Techniques brand makes quality, inexpensive products (I have a few of their brushes). Unfortunately, the Miracle Complexion Sponge does not compare to the Beauty Blender. The material is not the same, and it does not work as well to apply product because it seems to soak up more product than the Beauty Blender.

Verdict? Splurge. The Beauty Blender will be worth the investment!

Tips & Tricks for using the Beauty Blender:

  • You can use it damp or dry – it works well both ways!
  • I’ve been washing mine with warm water and soap, but they do sell a Beauty Blender Cleanser in liquid and solid.
  • Be careful when you wash your Blender, I snagged mine on my nail and now it has a tiny rip in it.
  • Your Beauty Blender should last you a long time if you take good care of it.
